Last fall a rash of injuries to Holley’s boys varsity soccer squad, which forced a series of player call ups from the JV ranks, provided invaluable varsity playing time for a number of Holley sophomores and freshmen.

That experience looks to pay dividends this season as that group of now juniors and sophomore are helping to anchor the lineup as Holley prepares for the upcoming Genesee Region League campaign.

Joining the veteran senior quartet of Jon Bower (defender), Tyler Chmylak (attack), Josh Porter (goalie) and Andy Spychalski (midfield) are juniors Flint DiLella (defender), Gabriel Mendoza (midfield), Santino Morales (midfield) and Ryan Moseman (defender) along with sophomores Chris Balys (midfield), Andrew Carry (midfield), Tyler Hill (defender) and Derek McArthur (midfield). Another junior, Justin Parker, also returns after a year’s absence.

Chmylak and Mendoza each had eight goals and three assists last season as the Hawks went 4-5-1 in the league and 7-9-2 overall.

“We were super young last year but with another year of maturity we hope to have an excelerated pattern of play this season,” said Coach Dan Orbaker. “The goalie position is a bit of a question mark but with 12 returnees we should do better. We’ve got some quality players.”

The Hawks will open the season by hosting the Holley Tournament on September 4 and 6. The opening round will have Newfane v.s Batavia and Roy-Hart vs. Holley.

Holley is slated to open the G-R season at home on September 8 against Byron-Bergen.
