Kendall cagers sweep opening twin bill

Opening the season on a high note, Kendall swept to a non league doubleheader victory over visiting Rochester Academy Charter School this evening.

The Kendall girls scored a 48-34 win in the opener. The Eagle boys squad followed up with a 66-47 victory.

Taylor Kingsbury scored a game high 19 points and Tania Arellano netted 14 to spearhead the attack for the Kendall girls. Elizabeth Rath added 5, Sarah Gardner 4 and Kali Haskins, Taylor ReQua and Bridget Miller 2 each for the Lady Eagles.

Kendall jumped out to an 8-3 first quarter lead and boosted the advantage to 14-3 at the outset of the second period after a burst of three straight layups, two by Kingsbury and one by Arellano.

The Lady Eagles maintained 10 point leads of 22-12 at the half and 31-21 at the three-quarter mark.

Rochester Academy did close to within six at 33-27 early in the final quarter after a three-point play by Taajah Smith and a three by Maia Duncan.

However, Kendall answered right back with a 13-4 run to regain a commanding 15 point 46-31 advantage and put a lock on the win. Kingsbury led that rally by exploding for 11 points on three baskets and a five for five effort from the free throw line.

The Lady Eagles will next host Holley on December 4 in the opening round of the Kendall Tournament.

The Kendall boys were spearheaded by a quartet of double figure scorers as Mookie Nauden poured in a game high 20 points, Will Condo 16, Colton Breslawski 11 and Evan Gaesser 10. Nick Manners added 6 and Jacob Ramsdell 3 for the Eagles.

Getting baskets from five players, including a three by Gaesser and two jumpers by Nauden, Kendall jumped out to a 15-11 first quarter lead.

Rochester Academy rallied into a 23-19 lead midway through the second period but Kendall answered back with a 7-0 run on a layup by Breslawski and a three-point play and a rebound bucket by Condo to regain what proved to be a brief 26-23 lead.

The visiting Racers knotted the contest at 26-26 at the half on a three by Lakyll Hall at the buzzer.

Breaking away from a 30-30 deadlock early in the third period, Kendall finally took control for good by putting together a decisive 17-2 run.

Nauden had two layups and a three-point play to lead that uprising which also included two layups by Condo along with buckets by Breslawski, Gaesser and Manners vaulting the Eagles out to a commanding 15 point, 47-32 advantage.

Up by 13, 49-36, at the three-quarter mark Kendall maintained at least a 12 point advantage down the stretch as Nauden netted 6, Gaesser 5 and Breslawski 4.

Kendall next hosts Pembroke December 3 in the Genesee Region League opener.
