Three are tapped for induction into Kendall Athletic Hall of Fame

Two former outstanding student/athletes – Aimee (Canale) Koch (Class of 1994) and Charles D’Agostino (Class of 2000) – along with former long-time Coach James Sauberan have been selected for induction into the Kendall High Athletic Hall of Fame.

The three will be inducted on May 30 at the annual Kendall Sports Boosters SeniorAthlete/Hall of Fame banquet and will join previous inductees Eagles basketball legend Roosevelt Bouie and Coaches Ben Gerbig, Carolyn Brakenbury and Dick Reynolds.

Canale Koch, a three sport athlete at Kendall, was a four year starter on the varsity soccer team earning Genesee Region All-League honors her junior and senior years. She was also a third team All-State honoree her senior season when the Eagles captured a sectional title.

She went on to play four years at SUNY Geneseo earning all conference honors every year. She earned her BS and MA degrees in Speech Pathology at Geneseo where she also coached the women’s soccer team from 1999-2004 helping the Lady Knights reach the conference finals three times. She was inducted into the Geneseo Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.

D’Agostino helped to lead Kendall to a total of seven G-R League titles and Section V titles in three different sports – soccer, basketball and baseball.

He earned first team G-R League All-Star honors no less than seven times. He was chosen for the McDonald’s All-Star game and was named Kendall’s Male Athlete of the Year his senior year.

D’Agostino went on to play college baseball at Gannon University and has earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Sauberan, who “officially” retired in 2006 after serving for 37 years as Kendall’s wrestling coach and Social Studies teacher, still enjoys actively helping with the Eagles mat squad.

During his many years at the helm, Sauberan helped led Kendall to 17 G-R League titles, earned a total of 298 wins and guided 32 league and one state champion, Donald Williams in 2004.

Sauberan also served as Kendall’s golf coach for 15 years, Athletic Director for 10 years and as G-R League and Section V Wrestling Chairman for over 20 years. He has been inducted into both the Section V and the National Wrestling Halls of Fame.
